Discover Why We Love Yorkshire Terriers

Yorkshire Terriers, also known as Yorkies, are a breed we really love at The Puppy House. Yorkies have a long, beautiful, silky coat and are often recommended for people with allergies because they shed very little. Yorkies typically weigh 7 pounds or less, but you'd never guess it from their feisty, bossy, big-dog attitude. But what really wins people over is their sweet nature and the deep bond they form with their family. Then there's their love of cuddling and staying close all the time, which is the icing on the cake. Yorkies make a wonderful fit for most families. Reputable Yorkie breeders are hard to come by in the Largo, Florida area, since there are so few responsible breeders nationwide. For that reason, we take great pride in offering our carefully bred Yorkshire Terrier puppies to families in Largo. Every family should have access to a healthy, well-raised puppy they can count on, and that's what we're here to provide.

What Sets Our Yorkie Puppies Apart

Breeding and raising Yorkies the right way matters to us at The Puppy House. Our standards reach well past the basics. Every adult dog in our program is genetically tested and comes from strong bloodlines known for great temperaments. Every dog we have receives excellent care and has plenty of room to play and socialize.

We put every puppy through Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), a series of gentle handling exercises done in the first few weeks of life. We also make socialization a priority, because it lays the groundwork for good behavior and habits as our puppies grow. Our puppies play and explore in the backyard alongside kids, adults, and our own vaccinated adult dogs. It's excellent socialization, and it gives them lots of exercise as well.

If you're able to, we'd love for you to visit and choose your puppy in person. That way, you can see our home, get to know our dogs, and meet us face to face. We take great care in placing our Yorkies, and to us it's more than a one-time sale. It means a lot to us to make new friends, keep in touch, and watch our pups grow up in loving homes.

Before leaving for their new home, each puppy receives their first round of vaccinations and a thorough veterinary exam. You can bring your new Yorkie home knowing they're healthy, happy, and ready to be part of your family.

Getting Your Puppy From Sugarcreek to Largo, Florida

Families are welcome to pick up in person at the farm by appointment. From Largo that means 872 miles on the road and 16 to 18 hours of driving each way, a two day trip for most Floridians. The families who make it come for the visit as much as the puppy, since it's the one way to walk the property, meet the parent dogs, and go over the health records and microchip registration face to face.

Ground transport is what most Florida families use. A professional pet transport service drives the puppy door to door in a climate controlled van, with an individual carrier, a veterinary check before departure, and updates along the way. Transport leaves Sugarcreek on Tuesdays, and Florida runs take two to three days depending on the route and the stops before yours. Florida falls in our regional pricing tier at a flat $350, which is the same fee we charge Pennsylvania and Georgia even though the drive is several times longer. That rate covers Largo, , including Clearwater FL, Seminole FL, South Highpoint FL, Indian Rocks Beach FL, Ridgecrest FL, Harbor Bluffs FL, Redington Shores FL, Belleair Bluffs FL, Belleair Beach FL, North Redington Beach FL, Indian Shores FL, and Redington Beach FL, and any other address in Pinellas County.

Flight nanny is the answer when you want the puppy home fast. A trained handler carries the puppy in the cabin, never in cargo, and hands it to you at baggage claim. Most of these deliveries finish the same day. For Largo, nannies fly into St. Petersburg Clearwater International Airport, and Tampa International Airport. The puppy needs to be at least eight weeks old, under 20 pounds including the carrier, and traveling with a health certificate from a licensed veterinarian, plus some flexibility on your end if weather pushes a flight. Cost is quoted per flight rather than by tier. The farther down the peninsula you are, the faster the driving miles pile up, and the extra money can buy back a full day.

Two things about this breed are worth knowing before travel day. A grown Yorkshire Terrier tops out around seven pounds, so the 20 pound in cabin limit is never a problem, and a puppy this small can dip low on blood sugar after a long day of travel. Small frequent meals in the first days home are the fix, and we go over that with you before your puppy leaves. If you're meeting a nanny at an airport in July, park close and get the carrier into air conditioning quickly rather than letting it sit in a hot garage.
