Learn Why We Love Yorkies

Yorkshire Terriers, also known as Yorkies, have a special place in our hearts at The Puppy House. Their coat is long, silky, and beautiful, and because it sheds very little, Yorkies are often recommended for people with allergies. Although they typically weigh 7 pounds or less, Yorkies have a big-dog attitude that can be feisty and bossy. But the real reason people fall for Yorkies is their sweet nature and the deep bond they form with their family. Their love of snuggling and staying close all the time is the icing on the cake. They adapt well to most families. There are very few responsible breeders across the country, so finding reputable Yorkie breeders in the St. Petersburg, Florida area can be difficult. That's why we take great pride in bringing our carefully bred Yorkshire Terrier puppies to families in St. Petersburg. We want every family to have access to a healthy, well-raised puppy they can depend on.

Why Our Puppies Are a Cut Above

At The Puppy House, we do things the right way when it comes to breeding and raising Yorkies. We go above and beyond the basics. All of our adult dogs are genetically tested and come from strong bloodlines that are known for great temperaments. Our dogs are all well cared for and have plenty of room to play and socialize.

Our puppies each go through Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), a series of gentle handling exercises done in the first few weeks of life. Socialization is just as important, and it lays the groundwork for good behavior and habits as they grow. They get plenty of time to play and explore in the backyard with kids, adults, and our own vaccinated adult dogs. It's excellent socialization, and it gives them lots of exercise as well.

If you can, we invite you to visit us and pick out your puppy in person. You'll be able to see our home and our dogs and meet us face to face. We put a lot of thought into placing our Yorkies, and to us it's more than a one-time sale. We love making new friends, hearing from them over the years, and watching our pups grow up in loving homes.

Every puppy gets their first round of vaccinations and a thorough veterinary exam before going home. You can trust that you're bringing home a healthy, happy Yorkie who's ready to be part of your family.

Getting Your Puppy From Sugarcreek to St. Petersburg, Florida

Families are welcome to pick up in person at the farm by appointment. From St. Petersburg that means 881 miles on the road and 17 to 19 hours of driving each way, a two day trip for most Floridians. The families who make it come for the visit as much as the puppy, since it's the one way to walk the property, meet the parent dogs, and go over the health records and microchip registration face to face.

Ground transport is what most Florida families use. A professional pet transport service drives the puppy door to door in a climate controlled van, with an individual carrier, a veterinary check before departure, and updates along the way. Transport leaves Sugarcreek on Tuesdays, and Florida runs take two to three days depending on the route and the stops before yours. Florida falls in our regional pricing tier at a flat $350, which is the same fee we charge Pennsylvania and Georgia even though the drive is several times longer. That rate covers St. Petersburg, , including Gulfport FL, St. Pete Beach FL, Treasure Island FL, South Pasadena FL, Tierra Verde FL, and Bear Creek FL, and any other address in Pinellas County.

Flight nanny is the answer when you want the puppy home fast. A trained handler carries the puppy in the cabin, never in cargo, and hands it to you at baggage claim. Most of these deliveries finish the same day. For St. Petersburg, nannies fly into St. Petersburg Clearwater International Airport, and Tampa International Airport. The puppy needs to be at least eight weeks old, under 20 pounds including the carrier, and traveling with a health certificate from a licensed veterinarian, plus some flexibility on your end if weather pushes a flight. Cost is quoted per flight rather than by tier. The farther down the peninsula you are, the faster the driving miles pile up, and the extra money can buy back a full day.

Two things about this breed are worth knowing before travel day. A grown Yorkshire Terrier tops out around seven pounds, so the 20 pound in cabin limit is never a problem, and a puppy this small can dip low on blood sugar after a long day of travel. Small frequent meals in the first days home are the fix, and we go over that with you before your puppy leaves. If you're meeting a nanny at an airport in July, park close and get the carrier into air conditioning quickly rather than letting it sit in a hot garage.
