Learn Why Yorkies Are So Special to Us

Few breeds are as close to our hearts at The Puppy House as the Yorkshire Terrier, also known as the Yorkie. With their long, beautiful, silky coat and very little shedding, Yorkies are often recommended for people with allergies. They may be tiny, typically weighing 7 pounds or less, but Yorkies have a feisty, bossy, big-dog attitude. But what really wins people over is their sweet nature and the close bond they build with their family. Their love of snuggling and sticking close all the time is the cherry on top. They settle in easily with most families. Given how few responsible breeders there are across the country, finding reputable Yorkie breeders in the Dunedin, Florida area can be difficult. For this reason, we're proud to offer our carefully bred Yorkie puppies to families in Dunedin. We want every family to enjoy a healthy, well-raised puppy they can count on.

Why Our Puppies Are the Ones to Choose

At The Puppy House, we always do things the right way when it comes to breeding and raising Yorkies. We go above and beyond the basics. All of our adult dogs are genetically tested, and they come from strong bloodlines known for great temperaments. Every one of our dogs is well cared for and has plenty of room to play and socialize.

Every puppy we raise goes through Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), a series of gentle handling exercises done in the first weeks of life. Socialization is another important piece, and it lays the groundwork for good behavior and habits as they grow. Our puppies spend time playing and exploring in the backyard with kids, adults, and our own vaccinated adult dogs. This helps with socialization and gives them plenty of exercise too.

If you're able to, we'd love for you to visit and choose your puppy in person. That way, you can see where your puppy was raised, spend time with our dogs, and meet us face to face. Placing our Yorkies matters to us, and we see it as more than a one-time sale. We love meeting new friends, keeping in touch, and watching our puppies grow up in loving homes.

Before any puppy goes home, they receive their first round of vaccinations and a thorough veterinary exam. You can bring your new Yorkie home knowing they're healthy, happy, and ready to be part of your family.

Getting Your Puppy From Sugarcreek to Dunedin, Florida

Families are welcome to pick up in person at the farm by appointment. From Dunedin that means 864 miles on the road and 16 to 18 hours of driving each way, a two day trip for most Floridians. The families who make it come for the visit as much as the puppy, since it's the one way to walk the property, meet the parent dogs, and go over the health records and microchip registration face to face.

Ground transport is what most Florida families use. A professional pet transport service drives the puppy door to door in a climate controlled van, with an individual carrier, a veterinary check before departure, and updates along the way. Transport leaves Sugarcreek on Tuesdays, and Florida runs take two to three days depending on the route and the stops before yours. Florida falls in our regional pricing tier at a flat $350, which is the same fee we charge Pennsylvania and Georgia even though the drive is several times longer. That rate covers Dunedin, , including Palm Harbor FL, Safety Harbor FL, and Greenbriar FL, and any other address in Pinellas County.

Flight nanny is the answer when you want the puppy home fast. A trained handler carries the puppy in the cabin, never in cargo, and hands it to you at baggage claim. Most of these deliveries finish the same day. For Dunedin, nannies fly into St. Petersburg Clearwater International Airport, and Tampa International Airport. The puppy needs to be at least eight weeks old, under 20 pounds including the carrier, and traveling with a health certificate from a licensed veterinarian, plus some flexibility on your end if weather pushes a flight. Cost is quoted per flight rather than by tier. The farther down the peninsula you are, the faster the driving miles pile up, and the extra money can buy back a full day.

Two things about this breed are worth knowing before travel day. A grown Yorkshire Terrier tops out around seven pounds, so the 20 pound in cabin limit is never a problem, and a puppy this small can dip low on blood sugar after a long day of travel. Small frequent meals in the first days home are the fix, and we go over that with you before your puppy leaves. If you're meeting a nanny at an airport in July, park close and get the carrier into air conditioning quickly rather than letting it sit in a hot garage.
