Learn Why We Love Yorkies

Yorkshire Terriers, also known as Yorkies, have a special place in our hearts at The Puppy House. Their coat is long, silky, and beautiful, and because it sheds very little, Yorkies are often recommended for people with allergies. A Yorkie typically weighs 7 pounds or less but has a big-dog attitude that can be feisty and bossy. Even so, what really wins people over is their sweet nature and the strong bond they form with their family. Their love of snuggling and staying close all the time is the icing on the cake. They fit right in with most families. Finding reputable Yorkie breeders in the Tallahassee, Florida area can be challenging, since there are so few responsible breeders across the country. That's why we're proud to offer families in Tallahassee our carefully bred Yorkshire Terrier puppies. We want every family to have a healthy, well-raised puppy they can truly count on.

Why Our Puppies Are a Cut Above

At The Puppy House, we do things the right way when it comes to breeding and raising Yorkies. We aim much higher than the basics. We genetically test all of our adult dogs, and each one comes from strong bloodlines known for great temperaments. We take good care of our dogs and give them plenty of room to play and socialize.

Every puppy we raise goes through Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), a series of gentle handling exercises done in the first weeks of life. Socialization is also an important step, since it lays the groundwork for good behavior and habits as puppies grow. The puppies get to play and explore in the backyard with kids, adults, and our own vaccinated adult dogs. It's great for their social skills, and it gives them plenty of exercise too.

If you're able to, we'd love for you to visit and choose your puppy in person. That way, you can see our home, get to know our dogs, and meet us face to face. We take placing our Yorkies with families seriously, and it's more than a one-time sale to us. We love making new friends, checking in over the years, and watching our pups grow up in loving homes.

Every puppy has had their first round of vaccinations and a thorough veterinary exam by the time they go home. You can trust that you're bringing home a healthy, happy Yorkie who's ready to be part of your family.

Getting Your Puppy From Sugarcreek to Tallahassee, Florida

Families are welcome to pick up in person at the farm by appointment. From Tallahassee that means 710 miles on the road and 13 to 15 hours of driving each way, a two day trip for most Floridians. The families who make it come for the visit as much as the puppy, since it's the one way to walk the property, meet the parent dogs, and go over the health records and microchip registration face to face.

Ground transport is what most Florida families use. A professional pet transport service drives the puppy door to door in a climate controlled van, with an individual carrier, a veterinary check before departure, and updates along the way. Transport leaves Sugarcreek on Tuesdays, and Florida runs take two to three days depending on the route and the stops before yours. Florida falls in our regional pricing tier at a flat $350, which is the same fee we charge Pennsylvania and Georgia even though the drive is several times longer. That rate covers Tallahassee, , including Valdosta GA, Thomasville GA, Bainbridge GA, Cairo GA, Perry FL, Quincy FL, Crawfordville FL, Chattahoochee FL, Carrabelle FL, Woodville FL, Monticello FL, Sneads FL, Havana FL, Gretna FL, Bristol FL, Panacea FL, Hosford FL, Ochlocknee GA, Greensboro FL, and Sopchoppy FL, and any other address in Leon County.

Flight nanny is the answer when you want the puppy home fast. A trained handler carries the puppy in the cabin, never in cargo, and hands it to you at baggage claim. Most of these deliveries finish the same day. For Tallahassee, nannies fly into Tallahassee International Airport, and Valdosta Regional Airport. The puppy needs to be at least eight weeks old, under 20 pounds including the carrier, and traveling with a health certificate from a licensed veterinarian, plus some flexibility on your end if weather pushes a flight. Cost is quoted per flight rather than by tier. The farther down the peninsula you are, the faster the driving miles pile up, and the extra money can buy back a full day.

Two things about this breed are worth knowing before travel day. A grown Yorkshire Terrier tops out around seven pounds, so the 20 pound in cabin limit is never a problem, and a puppy this small can dip low on blood sugar after a long day of travel. Small frequent meals in the first days home are the fix, and we go over that with you before your puppy leaves. If you're meeting a nanny at an airport in July, park close and get the carrier into air conditioning quickly rather than letting it sit in a hot garage.
