Here's Why We Adore Yorkies

At The Puppy House, the Yorkshire Terrier, or Yorkie, holds a special place in our hearts. Yorkies are low-shedding dogs with long, beautiful, silky coats, and they're often recommended for people with allergies. Although Yorkies usually weigh no more than 7 pounds, their big-dog attitude can be feisty and bossy. But what truly wins people over is their sweet nature and the deep bond they form with their family. Their love of cuddling and always staying close is the icing on the cake. They make a great fit for most families. Given how few responsible breeders there are across the country, finding reputable Yorkie breeders in the Stratford, Connecticut area can be difficult. This is why we take great pride in offering our carefully bred Yorkshire Terrier puppies to families in Stratford. Our hope is that every family can have a healthy, well-raised puppy they can count on.

See Why Our Puppies Stand Out

The Puppy House is dedicated to breeding and raising Yorkies the right way. Our standards go far beyond the basics. Our adult dogs are all genetically tested, and they come from strong bloodlines known for wonderful temperaments. Our dogs are all well cared for and have plenty of room to play and socialize.

During their first few weeks, our puppies go through Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), a series of gentle handling exercises. We also focus on socialization, which lays the groundwork for good behavior and habits as our puppies grow. Our puppies enjoy playing and exploring in the backyard with kids, adults, and our own vaccinated adult dogs. It's great socialization, and it's a fun way for them to get exercise too.

We encourage you to visit us and pick out your puppy in person if you can. That way, you can see our home and our dogs and meet us face to face. We're careful about placing our Yorkies, and for us it's always more than a one-time sale. We love making new friends, staying in touch, and watching our pups grow up in loving homes.

Before they go home, all of our puppies receive their first round of vaccinations and a thorough veterinary exam. You can trust that you're bringing home a healthy, happy Yorkie who's ready to be part of your family.

Three Ways a Yorkie Puppy Gets to Stratford, Connecticut

Connecticut falls in our regional delivery tier, which means door to door ground transport is a flat $350 in Stratford, in , including Milford CT, and Trumbull CT, and everywhere else in Fairfield County. This is what we recommend for most families here. A professional pet transport service drives the puppy in a climate controlled van, in an individual carrier, with a veterinary check before departure and updates along the way. Vans leave Sugarcreek on Tuesdays, and because Connecticut sits early on the East Coast route, arrival is usually the next day.

Pickup at the farm is open to anyone willing to make the drive, by appointment. From Stratford that's 447 miles by road, or 8 to 10 hours each way. It makes for a long day. You get to see where the puppy was raised, meet the litter, and go through the health records, microchip registration, and the guarantee face to face before you head home.

Flight nanny is the fastest option and the one families choose when they want the puppy quickly. A trained handler carries the puppy in the cabin in an airline approved carrier under the seat, never in cargo, and hands the puppy to you at baggage claim. Most of these finish same day. The practical arrival airports for Stratford are Tweed New Haven Airport, and Long Island MacArthur Airport. The puppy has to be at least eight weeks old, under twenty pounds including the carrier, and travel with a health certificate from a licensed veterinarian. A grown Yorkshire Terrier weighs four to seven pounds, so that weight limit is never the sticking point with this breed. Flights are quoted per trip and cost more than ground, and winter weather can push a date.

We send home a bag of the food the puppy has been eating. The method, the timing, and the fee all get confirmed on a call once a puppy is reserved.
