Learn the Reasons We Love Yorkies

The Yorkshire Terrier, also known as the Yorkie, holds a special place in our hearts at The Puppy House. Yorkies have a long, beautiful, silky coat and are often recommended for people with allergies because they shed very little. Don't let their size fool you. Yorkies typically weigh 7 pounds or less, but they have a feisty, bossy, big-dog attitude. Still, their sweet nature and the deep connection they form with their family are what really win people over. Their love of snuggling and staying close all the time is the icing on the cake. They adapt well to most families. Families in the Farmington, Connecticut area often find it challenging to locate a reputable Yorkie breeder, since there are so few responsible breeders nationwide. That's why we're proud to bring our carefully bred Yorkie puppies to families in Farmington. Our goal is for every family to have access to a healthy, well-raised puppy they can count on.

Learn What Sets Our Puppies Apart

We breed and raise our Yorkies the right way here at The Puppy House. We aim much higher than the basics. Each of our adult dogs is genetically tested and comes from strong bloodlines known for great temperaments. Each dog in our care is well looked after and has plenty of room to play and socialize.

From the start, every puppy goes through Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), a series of gentle handling exercises done in the first few weeks of life. We also make socialization a priority, because it lays the groundwork for good behavior and habits as our puppies grow. Out in the backyard, our puppies play and explore alongside kids, adults, and our own vaccinated adult dogs. That playtime is great socialization, and it gives them plenty of exercise too.

If you can, we invite you to visit us and pick out your puppy in person. Visiting lets you see our home and our dogs and meet us face to face. We take placing our Yorkies to heart, and to us it's more than a one-time sale. We love making new friends and keeping in touch so we can watch our pups grow up in loving homes.

Before going home, each puppy is given their first round of vaccinations and a thorough veterinary exam. You can be sure you're bringing home a healthy, happy Yorkie who's ready to become part of your family.

Three Ways a Yorkie Puppy Gets to Farmington, Connecticut

Connecticut falls in our regional delivery tier, which means door to door ground transport is a flat $350 in Farmington, in , including Avon CT, and Plainville CT, and everywhere else in Hartford County. This is what we recommend for most families here. A professional pet transport service drives the puppy in a climate controlled van, in an individual carrier, with a veterinary check before departure and updates along the way. Vans leave Sugarcreek on Tuesdays, and because Connecticut sits early on the East Coast route, arrival is usually the next day.

Pickup at the farm is open to anyone willing to make the drive, by appointment. From Farmington that's 466 miles by road, or 8 to 10 hours each way. It makes for a long day. You get to see where the puppy was raised, meet the litter, and go through the health records, microchip registration, and the guarantee face to face before you head home.

Flight nanny is the fastest option and the one families choose when they want the puppy quickly. A trained handler carries the puppy in the cabin in an airline approved carrier under the seat, never in cargo, and hands the puppy to you at baggage claim. Most of these finish same day. The practical arrival airports for Farmington are Bradley International Airport, and Tweed New Haven Airport. The puppy has to be at least eight weeks old, under twenty pounds including the carrier, and travel with a health certificate from a licensed veterinarian. A grown Yorkshire Terrier weighs four to seven pounds, so that weight limit is never the sticking point with this breed. Flights are quoted per trip and cost more than ground, and winter weather can push a date.

We send home a bag of the food the puppy has been eating. The method, the timing, and the fee all get confirmed on a call once a puppy is reserved.
