Why Yorkies Are So Special to Us

Few breeds are as close to our hearts at The Puppy House as the Yorkshire Terrier, also known as the Yorkie. Yorkies have a beautiful, long, silky coat that sheds very little, and they're often suggested for people with allergies. Even though they typically weigh 7 pounds or less, Yorkies have a big-dog attitude that can be feisty and bossy. What really wins people over, though, is their sweet nature and the deep bond they form with their family. Their fondness for cuddling and staying close all the time is the icing on the cake. They're a great match for most families. Searching for a reputable Yorkie breeder in the Downey, California area can be challenging, given how few responsible breeders there are nationwide. That's why we take great pride in offering our carefully bred Yorkshire Terrier puppies to families in Downey. It matters to us that every family has access to a healthy, well-raised puppy they can count on.

Why Our Yorkie Puppies Are the Best

At The Puppy House, we pride ourselves on breeding and raising Yorkies the right way. We hold ourselves to standards that go well beyond the basics. We make sure all of our adult dogs are genetically tested and come from strong bloodlines known for great temperaments. Every one of our dogs is well cared for and has plenty of room to play and socialize.

Our puppies all go through Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), which involves gentle handling exercises in the first few weeks of life. Socialization is another important step in helping our puppies develop good behavior and habits as they grow. They play and explore in our backyard with kids, adults, and our vaccinated adult dogs. It's great socialization, and it's a fun way for them to get exercise too.

If you're able to, we'd love for you to visit and choose your puppy in person. That way, you can see our home and our dogs for yourself and meet us face to face. We take placing our Yorkies seriously, and to us it's more than a one-time sale. We love making new friends, hearing from them over the years, and watching our pups grow up in loving homes.

Before going home, each puppy is given their first round of vaccinations and a thorough veterinary exam. You can be sure you're bringing home a healthy, happy Yorkie who's ready to become part of your family.

Yorkie Puppy Delivery to Downey, California: Costs, Timing, and Airports

There are three ways home, and for Downey the choice is usually between the last two.

Farm pickup. Families are welcome in Sugarcreek by appointment. Driving it from Downey means 2043 miles and 40 to 42 hours behind the wheel in each direction, so the families who visit nearly always fly into Cleveland or Columbus and drive about an hour and a half out into Tuscarawas County. That only makes sense if you were coming east anyway. When it does work out, you see the property, meet the parents where possible, and we go through the vaccination records, microchip registration, and guarantee at the kitchen table. The puppy leaves with a bag of the food it has been eating, a toy, and a blanket that smells like the litter.

Ground transport. A professional pet transport service drives the puppy door to door in a custom climate controlled van, in an individual carrier, with a veterinary check before departure and updates from the road. The fee to California is a flat $450, whether the address is in Downey or in . Vans leave on Tuesdays, and the West Coast run takes two to three days depending on the route, so treat any arrival window as approximate until it's confirmed by phone.

Flight nanny. This is the one we usually recommend for Downey. A trained handler keeps the puppy in the cabin beside them for the whole flight, never in cargo, in an airline approved soft carrier under the seat, and sends photos and video along the way. Most of these deliveries finish in a single day. Because California sits three hours behind Ohio, a morning departure often means an early afternoon handoff your time, and that handoff happens at baggage claim rather than at the gate. Los Angeles County families meet their nanny at Long Beach International Airport, and Jack Northrop Field Hawthorne Municipal Airport. Flight nanny costs more than ground and is quoted per flight, since the price depends on the route and the date. The puppy needs to be at least eight weeks old, needs a health certificate from a licensed veterinarian, and needs to weigh under 20 pounds including the carrier. A Yorkshire Terrier puppy at two or three pounds isn't close to that limit, which is part of why the breed travels so well in the cabin.

Timing matters more in California than it does most places. For a midsummer arrival in Downey we aim for early in the day and ask you to have the car cool and a water bowl ready. Toy breed puppies also run their blood sugar down on a travel day, so a small meal soon after you get home matters more than it would with a bigger dog.
