See Why We're Crazy About Yorkies

Here at The Puppy House, Yorkshire Terriers, also called Yorkies, hold a special place in our hearts. Yorkies have a long, beautiful, silky coat and are often recommended for people with allergies because they shed very little. Even at 7 pounds or less, Yorkies have a big-dog attitude that can come across as feisty and bossy. But their sweet temperament and the deep bond they create with their family are what win people over. Their fondness for cuddling and staying close all the time is the icing on the cake. They quickly become part of most families. Finding a reputable Yorkie breeder in the Davenport, Iowa area can be difficult, since there are so few responsible breeders across the country. That's why we're so proud to provide families in Davenport with our carefully bred Yorkshire Terrier puppies. We want each family to have access to a healthy, well-raised puppy they can trust.

Why So Many Families Choose Our Puppies

At The Puppy House, breeding and raising Yorkies the right way is what we do. We expect much more from ourselves than the basics. All of our adult dogs are genetically tested, and they come from strong bloodlines known for great temperaments. Every one of our dogs is well cared for and has plenty of room to play and socialize.

Each puppy goes through Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), a series of gentle handling exercises done in the first few weeks of life. Another important step is socialization, which helps shape good behavior and habits as they grow. They spend time in the backyard playing and exploring with kids, adults, and our own vaccinated adult dogs. Besides being great socialization, it gives them plenty of exercise.

We invite you to come visit and pick out your puppy in person if you can. You'll be able to look around our home, see our dogs, and meet us face to face. We don't take placing our Yorkies lightly, and to us it's more than a one-time sale. We love making new friends, keeping in touch, and watching our pups grow up in loving homes.

Our puppies receive their first round of vaccinations and a thorough veterinary exam before they go home. You can trust that you're bringing home a healthy, happy Yorkie who's ready to be part of your family.

How Your Yorkie Puppy Travels to Davenport, Iowa: Fees and Timing

Home delivery by ground

Davenport families choose this more often than anything else, and we would suggest it first. A professional transport service drives the puppy door to door in a custom climate controlled van, with an individual carrier, a veterinary check before departure, and updates from the road. Transport leaves Sugarcreek on Tuesdays. Most families across the country have their puppy in hand within about three days of departure. Iowa is on the shorter side of that since the route runs west along the interstate corridor rather than across the country. Davenport sits 472 miles into that run, and the driver works through , including Rock Island IL, Eldridge IA, Walcott IA, Long Grove IA, Wheatland IA, and Grand Mound IA on the same pass, along with any other Scott County address. Cost is a flat $450 for the state, and no airport trip is involved.

Flight nanny

A trained handler carries the puppy in the cabin of a commercial flight and hands it over at baggage claim, never in cargo. Most of these are same day. From Davenport, families usually meet the flight at Quad City International Airport, and Southeast Iowa Regional Airport, and because there's no direct route from our corner of Ohio you should plan on a connection. The puppy needs to be at least eight weeks old, under 20 pounds including the carrier, and traveling with a health certificate from a licensed veterinarian. A Yorkshire Terrier clears the weight limit with room to spare at four to seven pounds, so the carrier is comfortable rather than tight. Flight nanny costs more than ground and gets quoted per flight, and weather delays are part of the deal.

Pickup in Sugarcreek

You're welcome to come get the puppy yourself by appointment. Davenport is 8 to 10 hours out, so this is a full weekend rather than a day trip, but some families want to see where the puppy was raised and go over the records, microchip registration and guarantee in person. If you're making the drive anyway, that's the best version of the handoff.

Travel comes with one breed specific caution. Very young toy puppies can drop their blood sugar after a stressful stretch or a missed meal, so whichever method you pick, plan on small frequent meals for the first few days at home and keep the first evening quiet. Call or text us at (330) 275-4443 and we'll talk through which option makes sense for Davenport.
