Discover What We Love About Yorkies

Yorkshire Terriers, or Yorkies for short, have a special place in our hearts at The Puppy House. This breed is known for its long, beautiful, silky coat, and because it sheds very little, it's often recommended for people with allergies. Although they typically weigh 7 pounds or less, Yorkies have a big-dog attitude that can be feisty and bossy. However, what really wins people over is their sweet nature and the deep bond they form with their family. On top of that, they love to cuddle and stay close all the time. They're well suited to most families. Families in the Chalmette, Louisiana area often find it challenging to locate a reputable Yorkie breeder, since there are so few responsible breeders nationwide. This is why we're so proud to offer carefully bred Yorkshire Terrier puppies to families in Chalmette. We believe every family deserves access to a healthy, well-raised puppy they can count on.

Why You'll Love Our Puppies

At The Puppy House, we take care to breed and raise our Yorkies the right way. Our standards go well beyond the basics. All of our adult dogs come from strong bloodlines known for great temperaments, and every one is genetically tested. Our dogs are well cared for and have all the room they need to play and socialize.

We start every puppy on Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), a series of gentle handling exercises done in the first few weeks of life. Socialization is another important step, and it lays the groundwork for good behavior and habits as they grow. They get plenty of time to play and explore in the backyard with kids, adults, and our own vaccinated adult dogs. It's excellent socialization, and it gives them lots of exercise as well.

You're welcome to visit us and pick out your puppy in person if you can. That way, you can see our home and our dogs for yourself and meet us face to face. We take placing our Yorkies seriously, and we see it as much more than a one-time sale. We love making new friends along the way, keeping in touch, and watching our pups grow up in loving homes.

Every puppy gets their first round of shots and a thorough veterinary exam before going home. You can be sure you're bringing home a healthy, happy Yorkie who's ready to become part of your family.

Yorkie Puppy Delivery to Chalmette, Louisiana: Costs and Timing

Ground transport to your door

Chalmette families pick this one more than any other. A professional pet transport service drives the puppy door to door in a custom climate controlled van, with an individual carrier, a veterinary check before departure, and updates from the road. Transport leaves Sugarcreek on Tuesdays. Louisiana falls in our national delivery tier at a flat $450, and because the Deep South is at the end of the route, with Chalmette 866 miles from the farm, plan on two to three days from departure rather than the next day service the East Coast gets. The van that comes to Chalmette also stops in , including Slidell LA, Meraux LA, Violet LA, Arabi LA, Poydras LA, Port Sulphur LA, Empire LA, Buras LA, Boothville LA, and Triumph LA, and the fee is the same anywhere in St. Bernard Parish.

Flight nanny

A trained handler carries the puppy in the cabin of a commercial flight, in an airline approved soft carrier under the seat, and never in cargo. Handoff happens at baggage claim, usually the same day. For Chalmette, we would fly the puppy into Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, and Gulfport Biloxi International Airport. The puppy needs to be at least eight weeks old, under twenty pounds with the carrier, which no Yorkie comes close to, and traveling with a health certificate from a licensed veterinarian. Flight nanny is quoted per flight and costs more than ground, and everyone involved needs some flexibility if weather pushes a departure.

Picking up at the farm

Come to Sugarcreek by appointment and take the puppy home yourself. It's 16 to 18 hours each way from Chalmette, so this is the least common choice, but a few families build it into a trip north. You get to see where the puppy was raised, go over the vaccination records, microchip registration, and health guarantee at the kitchen table, and leave with a small bag of the food the puppy has been eating, a toy, and a blanket that smells like the litter.

What we usually suggest

Ground transport is the sensible pick for nearly every Louisiana address, Chalmette included. It's the cheaper of the two long distance options, it ends at your front door instead of an airport curb, and a Yorkie travels well in a van with a driver who stops on a schedule. Families who want the puppy home in a single day often go with a flight nanny instead. One breed note worth knowing either way: young Yorkies can drop their blood sugar after a stressful stretch or a missed meal, so transport keeps them on small frequent feedings the whole way, and we ask you to do the same for the first few months.
