Find Out What We Love About Yorkies

Yorkshire Terriers, or Yorkies for short, have a special place in our hearts at The Puppy House. This breed has a beautiful, long, silky coat that sheds very little, making it a popular recommendation for people with allergies. Although Yorkies usually weigh no more than 7 pounds, their big-dog attitude can be feisty and bossy. What really wins people over, though, is their sweet nature and the deep bond they form with their family. Their love of snuggling and staying close all the time is the icing on the cake. For most families, a Yorkie fits right in. Finding a reputable Yorkie breeder in the Harvey, Louisiana area can be difficult, since there are so few responsible breeders across the country. That's why offering our carefully bred Yorkshire Terrier puppies to families in Harvey is something we take great pride in. Our mission is to help every family find a healthy, well-raised puppy they can count on.

Why You'll Love Our Puppies

At The Puppy House, we take care to breed and raise our Yorkies the right way. We go well beyond the basic standards. We only work with genetically tested adult dogs from strong bloodlines known for great temperaments. Our dogs are well cared for and enjoy plenty of room to play and socialize.

Our puppies each go through Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), a series of gentle handling exercises done in the first few weeks of life. Socialization is another big part of the process, and it lays the groundwork for good behavior and habits as they grow. Our puppies get to play and explore in the backyard with kids, adults, and our own vaccinated adult dogs. It's a great way to socialize them, and they get plenty of exercise too.

If you can, we'd love for you to come see us and pick out your puppy in person. While you're here, you can see our home and our dogs and meet us face to face. We take placing our Yorkies seriously, since to us it's more than a one-time sale. We love making new friends, staying in touch, and watching our pups grow up in loving homes.

Before going home, every puppy gets their first round of vaccinations and is checked thoroughly by a veterinarian. You can rest easy knowing you're bringing home a healthy, happy Yorkie who's ready to be part of your family.

Yorkie Puppy Delivery to Harvey, Louisiana: Costs and Timing

Ground transport to your door

Harvey families pick this one more than any other. A professional pet transport service drives the puppy door to door in a custom climate controlled van, with an individual carrier, a veterinary check before departure, and updates from the road. Transport leaves Sugarcreek on Tuesdays. Louisiana falls in our national delivery tier at a flat $450, and because the Deep South is at the end of the route, with Harvey 872 miles from the farm, plan on two to three days from departure rather than the next day service the East Coast gets. The van that comes to Harvey also stops in , including New Orleans LA, Marrero LA, Terrytown LA, and Woodmere LA, and the fee is the same anywhere in Jefferson Parish.

Flight nanny

A trained handler carries the puppy in the cabin of a commercial flight, in an airline approved soft carrier under the seat, and never in cargo. Handoff happens at baggage claim, usually the same day. For Harvey, we would fly the puppy into Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, and Gulfport Biloxi International Airport. The puppy needs to be at least eight weeks old, under twenty pounds with the carrier, which no Yorkie comes close to, and traveling with a health certificate from a licensed veterinarian. Flight nanny is quoted per flight and costs more than ground, and everyone involved needs some flexibility if weather pushes a departure.

Picking up at the farm

Come to Sugarcreek by appointment and take the puppy home yourself. It's 16 to 18 hours each way from Harvey, so this is the least common choice, but a few families build it into a trip north. You get to see where the puppy was raised, go over the vaccination records, microchip registration, and health guarantee at the kitchen table, and leave with a small bag of the food the puppy has been eating, a toy, and a blanket that smells like the litter.

What we usually suggest

Ground transport is the sensible pick for nearly every Louisiana address, Harvey included. It's the cheaper of the two long distance options, it ends at your front door instead of an airport curb, and a Yorkie travels well in a van with a driver who stops on a schedule. Families who want the puppy home in a single day often go with a flight nanny instead. One breed note worth knowing either way: young Yorkies can drop their blood sugar after a stressful stretch or a missed meal, so transport keeps them on small frequent feedings the whole way, and we ask you to do the same for the first few months.
