Find Out What We Love About Yorkies

Yorkshire Terriers, or Yorkies for short, have a special place in our hearts at The Puppy House. The Yorkie's long, silky coat is beautiful and low-shedding, which makes the breed a common recommendation for people with allergies. Despite typically weighing 7 pounds or less, Yorkies carry a big-dog attitude that can be feisty and bossy. But underneath that attitude, what really wins people over is their sweet nature and the deep bond they form with their family. To top it off, they love to cuddle and stay close all the time. They're well suited to most families. Given how few responsible breeders there are across the country, finding reputable Yorkie breeders in the New Orleans, Louisiana area can be difficult. This is why we take great pride in offering our carefully bred Yorkshire Terrier puppies to families in New Orleans. It matters to us that every family has access to a healthy, well-raised puppy they can count on.

Why Our Puppies Make the Best Companions

At The Puppy House, we take care to breed and raise our Yorkies the right way. Meeting the basics isn't enough for us. Our adult dogs come from strong bloodlines known for great temperaments, and all of them are genetically tested. Our dogs are all well cared for and have plenty of room to play and socialize.

During their first few weeks, our puppies go through Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), a series of gentle handling exercises. Socialization is just as important, and it lays the groundwork for good behavior and habits as they grow. Out in the backyard, our puppies play and explore alongside kids, adults, and our own vaccinated adult dogs. It's excellent socialization, and it gives them lots of exercise as well.

We'd be happy to have you visit and pick out your puppy in person if you can. That way, you can see our home and our dogs and meet us face to face. We take placing our Yorkies to heart, and to us it's more than a one-time sale. We love making new friends, checking in over the years, and watching our pups grow up in loving homes.

Each puppy receives their first round of vaccinations and a thorough veterinary exam before going home. You can be sure you're bringing home a healthy, happy Yorkie who's ready to become part of your family.

Yorkie Puppy Delivery to New Orleans, Louisiana: Costs and Timing

Ground transport to your door

New Orleans families pick this one more than any other. A professional pet transport service drives the puppy door to door in a custom climate controlled van, with an individual carrier, a veterinary check before departure, and updates from the road. Transport leaves Sugarcreek on Tuesdays. Louisiana falls in our national delivery tier at a flat $450, and because the Deep South is at the end of the route, with New Orleans 869 miles from the farm, plan on two to three days from departure rather than the next day service the East Coast gets. The van that comes to New Orleans also stops in , including and Metairie LA, and the fee is the same anywhere in Orleans Parish.

Flight nanny

A trained handler carries the puppy in the cabin of a commercial flight, in an airline approved soft carrier under the seat, and never in cargo. Handoff happens at baggage claim, usually the same day. For New Orleans, we would fly the puppy into Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, and Gulfport Biloxi International Airport. The puppy needs to be at least eight weeks old, under twenty pounds with the carrier, which no Yorkie comes close to, and traveling with a health certificate from a licensed veterinarian. Flight nanny is quoted per flight and costs more than ground, and everyone involved needs some flexibility if weather pushes a departure.

Picking up at the farm

Come to Sugarcreek by appointment and take the puppy home yourself. It's 16 to 18 hours each way from New Orleans, so this is the least common choice, but a few families build it into a trip north. You get to see where the puppy was raised, go over the vaccination records, microchip registration, and health guarantee at the kitchen table, and leave with a small bag of the food the puppy has been eating, a toy, and a blanket that smells like the litter.

What we usually suggest

Ground transport is the sensible pick for nearly every Louisiana address, New Orleans included. It's the cheaper of the two long distance options, it ends at your front door instead of an airport curb, and a Yorkie travels well in a van with a driver who stops on a schedule. Families who want the puppy home in a single day often go with a flight nanny instead. One breed note worth knowing either way: young Yorkies can drop their blood sugar after a stressful stretch or a missed meal, so transport keeps them on small frequent feedings the whole way, and we ask you to do the same for the first few months.
