Find Out Why We're So Fond of Yorkies

Here at The Puppy House, Yorkshire Terriers, also called Yorkies, hold a special place in our hearts. This breed has a beautiful, long, silky coat that sheds very little, making it a popular recommendation for people with allergies. They may be tiny, typically weighing 7 pounds or less, but Yorkies have a feisty, bossy, big-dog attitude. But what wins people's hearts is their sweet nature and the deep bond they form with their family. And their love of cuddling and staying close all the time is the icing on the cake. They adapt well to most families. It's not always easy to find reputable Yorkie breeders in the Fort Dodge, Iowa area, because responsible breeders are scarce across the country. This is why we're proud to make our carefully bred Yorkie puppies available to families in Fort Dodge. We want every family to have a healthy, well-raised puppy they can rely on.

Why Our Puppies Are the Right Choice

Here at The Puppy House, we breed and raise our Yorkies the right way. The standards we follow go well beyond the basics. Our adult dogs come from strong bloodlines known for great temperaments, and all of them are genetically tested. Every dog we have receives excellent care and has plenty of room to play and socialize.

Each of our puppies receives Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), a set of gentle handling exercises done in the first few weeks of life. Socialization is another important step, and it helps build good behavior and habits as our puppies grow. The puppies play and explore in our backyard with kids, adults, and our own vaccinated adult dogs. It's great for socialization, and it gives them plenty of exercise too.

We invite you to come visit and pick out your puppy in person if you can. During your visit, you can see our home and our dogs and meet us face to face. We take the placement of our Yorkies seriously, and to us it's more than a one-time sale. We enjoy gaining new friends, keeping in touch, and watching our pups grow up in loving homes.

Before heading home, each puppy receives their first round of vaccinations and a thorough veterinary exam. You can bring your new Yorkie home knowing they're healthy, happy, and ready to be part of your family.

How Your Yorkie Puppy Travels to Fort Dodge, Iowa: Fees and Timing

Home delivery by ground

Fort Dodge families choose this more often than anything else, and we would suggest it first. A professional transport service drives the puppy door to door in a custom climate controlled van, with an individual carrier, a veterinary check before departure, and updates from the road. Transport leaves Sugarcreek on Tuesdays. Most families across the country have their puppy in hand within about three days of departure. Iowa is on the shorter side of that since the route runs west along the interstate corridor rather than across the country. Fort Dodge sits 663 miles into that run, and the driver works through , including Spencer IA, Storm Lake IA, Carroll IA, Webster City IA, Estherville IA, Algona IA, Spirit Lake IA, Humboldt IA, Jefferson IA, Emmetsburg IA, Eagle Grove IA, Milford IA, Clarion IA, Rockwell City IA, Sac City IA, Pocahontas IA, Lake City IA, Manson IA, Arnolds Park IA, Coon Rapids IA, Laurens IA, Glidden IA, Lake View IA, Gowrie IA, Odebolt IA, Newell IA, Dakota City IA, Okoboji IA, Dayton IA, Graettinger IA, Grand Junction IA, Wall Lake IA, West Bend IA, Sioux Rapids IA, Coalville IA, Stratford IA, Lakeside IA, Bancroft IA, Ruthven IA, Albert City IA, Pomeroy IA, Orleans IA, Kanawha IA, Goldfield IA, Fonda IA, Badger IA, Arcadia IA, Rolfe IA, Scranton IA, Early IA, and Otho IA on the same pass, along with any other Webster County address. Cost is a flat $450 for the state, and no airport trip is involved.

Flight nanny

A trained handler carries the puppy in the cabin of a commercial flight and hands it over at baggage claim, never in cargo. Most of these are same day. From Fort Dodge, families usually meet the flight at Fort Dodge Regional Airport, and Mason City Municipal Airport, and because there's no direct route from our corner of Ohio you should plan on a connection. The puppy needs to be at least eight weeks old, under 20 pounds including the carrier, and traveling with a health certificate from a licensed veterinarian. A Yorkshire Terrier clears the weight limit with room to spare at four to seven pounds, so the carrier is comfortable rather than tight. Flight nanny costs more than ground and gets quoted per flight, and weather delays are part of the deal.

Pickup in Sugarcreek

You're welcome to come get the puppy yourself by appointment. Fort Dodge is 12 to 14 hours out, so this is a full weekend rather than a day trip, but some families want to see where the puppy was raised and go over the records, microchip registration and guarantee in person. If you're making the drive anyway, that's the best version of the handoff.

Travel comes with one breed specific caution. Very young toy puppies can drop their blood sugar after a stressful stretch or a missed meal, so whichever method you pick, plan on small frequent meals for the first few days at home and keep the first evening quiet. Call or text us at (330) 275-4443 and we'll talk through which option makes sense for Fort Dodge.
