Why We Love Yorkies

Yorkshire Terriers, commonly known as Yorkies, hold a special place in the hearts of everyone at The Puppy House. The breed is often recommended for people with allergies thanks to its long, beautiful, silky coat that sheds very little. Yorkies typically weigh 7 pounds or less, but they have a big-dog attitude that can be feisty and bossy. But what really wins people over is their sweet nature and the deep bond they form with their family. And their love of cuddling and staying close all the time is the icing on the cake. They adjust easily to life with most families. It's not always easy to find reputable Yorkie breeders in the South Laurel, Maryland area, because responsible breeders are scarce across the country. That's what makes us so proud to offer our carefully bred Yorkshire Terrier puppies to families in South Laurel. We want every family to enjoy a healthy, well-raised puppy they can count on.

Learn Why Our Puppies Are the Best

At The Puppy House, we're committed to breeding and raising Yorkies the right way. We go above and beyond the basics. We genetically test all of our adult dogs, and each one comes from strong bloodlines known for great temperaments. We give our dogs great care and plenty of room to play and socialize.

We start every puppy on Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), a series of gentle handling exercises done in the first few weeks of life. Socialization is also an important step, since it lays the groundwork for good behavior and habits as puppies grow. They play and explore in our backyard with kids, adults, and our vaccinated adult dogs. This is great socialization, and it gives them plenty of exercise too.

We'd love for you to visit us and pick out your puppy in person if you can. You'll get to see our home and our dogs and meet us face to face. We're careful about placing our Yorkies, and for us it's always more than a one-time sale. We love gaining new friends, keeping in touch, and seeing our pups grow up in loving homes.

Before going home, each puppy is given their first round of vaccinations and a thorough veterinary exam. You can be sure you're bringing home a healthy, happy Yorkie who's ready to become part of your family.

Three Ways to Bring a Yorkie Puppy Home to South Laurel, Maryland

Picking up at the farm

You're welcome to come get your puppy in person by appointment. From South Laurel the run out to Sugarcreek is 272 miles and 4 to 6 hours each way, and plenty of Maryland families do it to see where the puppy grew up. Pickups include the health records, microchip paperwork, and guarantee gone over at the kitchen table, plus a bag of the food the puppy has been eating, a toy, and a blanket that smells like the litter.

Ground delivery to your door

Ground is where most Maryland families end up. A professional transport service drives the puppy door to door in a climate controlled van with its own carrier, a vet check before departure, and updates along the way. Maryland sits in our regional tier, so the fee is a flat $350. Transport leaves on Tuesdays and East Coast stops are usually next day, so a puppy that departs Tuesday morning is often in Prince George's County by Wednesday. The same stop covers , including Laurel MD, Fairland MD, and Konterra MD.

Flight nanny

A trained handler carries the puppy in the cabin beside them, never in cargo, and hands it over at baggage claim. Most flight nanny deliveries finish the same day. The practical airports for South Laurel are Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. Flights are quoted individually and cost more than ground, and every nanny trip needs a veterinarian health certificate and some flexibility if weather moves things around. Weight is never the problem with this breed on a flight, since the cabin limit is twenty pounds including the carrier and a Yorkie puppy is nowhere near that.

For most of the state we suggest ground delivery. The distance is short enough that the puppy is only on the road one night, and it saves you an airport trip. If 4 to 6 hours each way sounds like a comfortable day to you, pickup is worth the drive.
