Learn Why We're Crazy About Yorkies

Yorkshire Terriers, better known as Yorkies, have a special place in our hearts here at The Puppy House. A Yorkie's long, beautiful, silky coat sheds very little, which is why the breed is often recommended for people with allergies. A Yorkie typically weighs 7 pounds or less but has a big-dog attitude that can be feisty and bossy. But their sweet nature and the deep bond they form with their family are what really win people over. Their love of snuggling and staying close all the time is the icing on the cake. Yorkies fit right in with most families. There are very few responsible breeders across the country, so finding reputable Yorkie breeders in the Richmond, California area can be difficult. This is why we're so proud to offer carefully bred Yorkshire Terrier puppies to families in Richmond. We want every family to have access to a healthy, well-raised puppy they can count on.

Why Families Choose Our Puppies

At The Puppy House, breeding and raising Yorkies the right way is what we do. For us, the basics are only the starting point. All of our adult dogs are genetically tested and come from strong bloodlines known for great temperaments. Every dog we have receives excellent care and has plenty of room to play and socialize.

We put every puppy through Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), a series of gentle handling exercises done in the first few weeks of life. Socialization is just as important, and it lays the groundwork for good behavior and habits as they grow. They spend time in the backyard playing and exploring with kids, adults, and our own vaccinated adult dogs. Besides being great socialization, it gives them plenty of exercise.

If you can, we'd love for you to come see us and pick out your puppy in person. That way, you can meet us face to face and see our home and our dogs. We take placing our Yorkies seriously, since to us it's more than a one-time sale. We love making new friends and keeping in touch so we can watch our pups grow up in loving homes.

Before going home, each puppy is given their first round of vaccinations and a thorough veterinary exam. You can be sure you're bringing home a healthy, happy Yorkie who's ready to become part of your family.

Yorkie Puppy Delivery to Richmond, California: Costs, Timing, and Airports

There are three ways home, and for Richmond the choice is usually between the last two.

Farm pickup. Families are welcome in Sugarcreek by appointment. Driving it from Richmond means 2167 miles and 42 to 44 hours behind the wheel in each direction, so the families who visit nearly always fly into Cleveland or Columbus and drive about an hour and a half out into Tuscarawas County. That only makes sense if you were coming east anyway. When it does work out, you see the property, meet the parents where possible, and we go through the vaccination records, microchip registration, and guarantee at the kitchen table. The puppy leaves with a bag of the food it has been eating, a toy, and a blanket that smells like the litter.

Ground transport. A professional pet transport service drives the puppy door to door in a custom climate controlled van, in an individual carrier, with a veterinary check before departure and updates from the road. The fee to California is a flat $450, whether the address is in Richmond or in , including San Pablo CA, and El Cerrito CA. Vans leave on Tuesdays, and the West Coast run takes two to three days depending on the route, so treat any arrival window as approximate until it's confirmed by phone.

Flight nanny. This is the one we usually recommend for Richmond. A trained handler keeps the puppy in the cabin beside them for the whole flight, never in cargo, in an airline approved soft carrier under the seat, and sends photos and video along the way. Most of these deliveries finish in a single day. Because California sits three hours behind Ohio, a morning departure often means an early afternoon handoff your time, and that handoff happens at baggage claim rather than at the gate. Contra Costa County families meet their nanny at Buchanan Field, and San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport. Flight nanny costs more than ground and is quoted per flight, since the price depends on the route and the date. The puppy needs to be at least eight weeks old, needs a health certificate from a licensed veterinarian, and needs to weigh under 20 pounds including the carrier. A Yorkshire Terrier puppy at two or three pounds isn't close to that limit, which is part of why the breed travels so well in the cabin.

Timing matters more in California than it does most places. For a midsummer arrival in Richmond we aim for early in the day and ask you to have the car cool and a water bowl ready. Toy breed puppies also run their blood sugar down on a travel day, so a small meal soon after you get home matters more than it would with a bigger dog.
