Why Yorkies Are So Special to Us

Few breeds are as close to our hearts at The Puppy House as the Yorkshire Terrier, also known as the Yorkie. The Yorkie's long, silky coat is beautiful and low-shedding, which makes the breed a common recommendation for people with allergies. Even at 7 pounds or less, Yorkies have a big-dog attitude that can come across as feisty and bossy. However, what really wins people over is their sweet nature and the deep bond they form with their family. To top it off, they love to cuddle and stay close all the time. They slip right into family life in most homes. Finding a trustworthy Yorkie breeder in the Gainesville, Florida area isn't easy, since there are so few responsible breeders across the country. That's why we're proud to offer families in Gainesville our carefully bred Yorkshire Terrier puppies. Every family should have access to a healthy, well-raised puppy they can count on, and that's what we're here to provide.

Why Our Yorkie Puppies Are the Best

At The Puppy House, we pride ourselves on breeding and raising Yorkies the right way. Our standards go far beyond the basics. All of our adult dogs are genetically tested, and they come from strong bloodlines known for great temperaments. Our dogs get great care and plenty of room to play and socialize.

In the first few weeks of life, every puppy goes through Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), a series of gentle handling exercises. Socialization is another important step in helping our puppies develop good behavior and habits as they grow. They play and explore in our backyard with kids, adults, and our vaccinated adult dogs. That playtime is great socialization, and it gives them plenty of exercise too.

We invite you to visit us and pick out your puppy in person if you can. Visiting lets you see our home and our dogs and meet us face to face. We're serious about placing our Yorkies, and for us it's more than a one-time sale. We love gaining new friends, keeping in touch, and seeing our pups grow up in loving homes.

Before going home, each puppy is given their first round of vaccinations and a thorough veterinary exam. You can be sure you're bringing home a healthy, happy Yorkie who's ready to become part of your family.

Getting Your Puppy From Sugarcreek to Gainesville, Florida

Families are welcome to pick up in person at the farm by appointment. From Gainesville that means 750 miles on the road and 14 to 16 hours of driving each way, a two day trip for most Floridians. The families who make it come for the visit as much as the puppy, since it's the one way to walk the property, meet the parent dogs, and go over the health records and microchip registration face to face.

Ground transport is what most Florida families use. A professional pet transport service drives the puppy door to door in a climate controlled van, with an individual carrier, a veterinary check before departure, and updates along the way. Transport leaves Sugarcreek on Tuesdays, and Florida runs take two to three days depending on the route and the stops before yours. Florida falls in our regional pricing tier at a flat $350, which is the same fee we charge Pennsylvania and Georgia even though the drive is several times longer. That rate covers Gainesville, , including Lake City FL, Alachua FL, Newberry FL, High Springs FL, Watertown FL, Williston FL, Manatee Road FL, Chiefland FL, Trenton FL, Williston Highlands FL, East Bronson FL, Cross City FL, Keystone Heights FL, Hawthorne FL, Interlachen FL, Five Points FL, Archer FL, Bronson FL, Fanning Springs FL, Waldo FL, Steinhatchee FL, Raleigh FL, Branford FL, East Williston FL, Andrews FL, Micanopy FL, Fort White FL, Hampton FL, Bell FL, and McIntosh FL, and any other address in Alachua County.

Flight nanny is the answer when you want the puppy home fast. A trained handler carries the puppy in the cabin, never in cargo, and hands it to you at baggage claim. Most of these deliveries finish the same day. For Gainesville, nannies fly into Gainesville Regional Airport, and Northeast Florida Regional Airport. The puppy needs to be at least eight weeks old, under 20 pounds including the carrier, and traveling with a health certificate from a licensed veterinarian, plus some flexibility on your end if weather pushes a flight. Cost is quoted per flight rather than by tier. The farther down the peninsula you are, the faster the driving miles pile up, and the extra money can buy back a full day.

Two things about this breed are worth knowing before travel day. A grown Yorkshire Terrier tops out around seven pounds, so the 20 pound in cabin limit is never a problem, and a puppy this small can dip low on blood sugar after a long day of travel. Small frequent meals in the first days home are the fix, and we go over that with you before your puppy leaves. If you're meeting a nanny at an airport in July, park close and get the carrier into air conditioning quickly rather than letting it sit in a hot garage.
