Yorkshire Terrier Puppies for Sale in Ottumwa, IA
Learn What We Love About Yorkies
Yorkshire Terriers, or Yorkies for short, have a special place in our hearts at The Puppy House. Along with their beautiful, long, silky coat, Yorkies shed very little, so they're often recommended for people with allergies. For a dog that typically weighs 7 pounds or less, the Yorkie has a big-dog attitude that can be feisty and bossy. But their sweet temperament and the deep bond they create with their family are what win people over. Then there's their love of cuddling and staying close all the time, which is the icing on the cake. They're a great match for most families. Searching for a reputable Yorkie breeder in the Ottumwa, Iowa area can be challenging, given how few responsible breeders there are nationwide. For that reason, we take great pride in offering our carefully bred Yorkshire Terrier puppies to families in Ottumwa. We believe every family deserves access to a healthy, well-raised puppy they can count on.

Why Our Puppies Make the Best Companions
At The Puppy House, we take care to breed and raise our Yorkies the right way. We aim much higher than the basics. Every adult dog we own is genetically tested and comes from strong bloodlines known for great temperaments. Our dogs are well cared for and have plenty of room to play and socialize.
Every puppy is given Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), a series of gentle handling exercises done early in life. Socialization is another important step, laying the groundwork for good behavior and habits as they grow. The puppies get to play and explore in the backyard with kids, adults, and our own vaccinated adult dogs. That playtime is great socialization, and it gives them plenty of exercise too.
We encourage you to visit us and pick out your puppy in person if you can. You'll get to see our home and our dogs and meet us face to face. Placing our Yorkies in new homes is something we take seriously, and it's more than a one-time sale for us. We love making new friends, checking in over the years, and watching our pups grow up in loving homes.
Before they go home, all of our puppies receive their first round of vaccinations and a thorough veterinary exam. You can trust that you're bringing home a healthy, happy Yorkie who's ready to be part of your family.
How Your Yorkie Puppy Travels to Ottumwa, Iowa: Fees and Timing
Home delivery by ground
Ottumwa families choose this more often than anything else, and we would suggest it first. A professional transport service drives the puppy door to door in a custom climate controlled van, with an individual carrier, a veterinary check before departure, and updates from the road. Transport leaves Sugarcreek on Tuesdays. Most families across the country have their puppy in hand within about three days of departure. Iowa is on the shorter side of that since the route runs west along the interstate corridor rather than across the country. Ottumwa sits 565 miles into that run, and the driver works through , including Kirksville MO, Oskaloosa IA, Fairfield IA, Pella IA, Centerville IA, Albia IA, Bloomfield IA, Sigourney IA, Memphis MO, Milan MO, Unionville MO, Montezuma IA, La Plata MO, Maharishi Vedic City IA, New Sharon IA, Eddyville IA, Eldon IA, Keosauqua IA, Lancaster MO, Hedrick IA, Fremont IA, Seymour IA, Agency IA, Moravia IA, What Cheer IA, Queen City MO, Richland IA, Green City MO, Moulton IA, Wilson MO, Batavia IA, Elm MO, and Lovilia IA on the same pass, along with any other Wapello County address. Cost is a flat $450 for the state, and no airport trip is involved.
Flight nanny
A trained handler carries the puppy in the cabin of a commercial flight and hands it over at baggage claim, never in cargo. Most of these are same day. From Ottumwa, families usually meet the flight at Kirksville Regional Airport, and Southeast Iowa Regional Airport, and because there's no direct route from our corner of Ohio you should plan on a connection. The puppy needs to be at least eight weeks old, under 20 pounds including the carrier, and traveling with a health certificate from a licensed veterinarian. A Yorkshire Terrier clears the weight limit with room to spare at four to seven pounds, so the carrier is comfortable rather than tight. Flight nanny costs more than ground and gets quoted per flight, and weather delays are part of the deal.
Pickup in Sugarcreek
You're welcome to come get the puppy yourself by appointment. Ottumwa is 10 to 12 hours out, so this is a full weekend rather than a day trip, but some families want to see where the puppy was raised and go over the records, microchip registration and guarantee in person. If you're making the drive anyway, that's the best version of the handoff.
Travel comes with one breed specific caution. Very young toy puppies can drop their blood sugar after a stressful stretch or a missed meal, so whichever method you pick, plan on small frequent meals for the first few days at home and keep the first evening quiet. Call or text us at (330) 275-4443 and we'll talk through which option makes sense for Ottumwa.
