Discover Why We're So Fond of Yorkies

Here at The Puppy House, Yorkshire Terriers, also called Yorkies, hold a special place in our hearts. The breed's long, silky coat is beautiful and sheds very little, so Yorkies are often recommended for people with allergies. Although they typically weigh 7 pounds or less, Yorkies have a big-dog attitude that can be feisty and bossy. But what most people love is their sweet nature and the deep bond they form with their family. As a bonus, they love to cuddle and stay close all the time. They settle in easily with most families. In the San Luis Obispo, California area, reputable Yorkie breeders can be tough to find, since there are so few responsible breeders across the country. That's why offering our carefully bred Yorkshire Terrier puppies to families in San Luis Obispo is something we take great pride in. Our aim is to give every family access to a healthy, well-raised puppy they can count on.

Why So Many Families Choose Our Puppies

At The Puppy House, breeding and raising Yorkies the right way is what we do. Our standards go well past the bare minimum. We make sure all of our adult dogs are genetically tested and come from strong bloodlines known for great temperaments. Every dog we have receives excellent care and has plenty of room to play and socialize.

Every puppy goes through Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), a series of gentle handling exercises done in the first few weeks of life. Socialization is just as important, and it lays the groundwork for good behavior and habits as they grow. They play and explore in our backyard with kids, adults, and our vaccinated adult dogs. That playtime is great socialization, and it gives them plenty of exercise too.

We'd love for you to visit us and pick out your puppy in person if you can. That way, you can see where your puppy was raised, spend time with our dogs, and meet us face to face. We take placing our Yorkies seriously, and to us it's more than a one-time sale. We love making new friends along the way, keeping in touch, and watching our pups grow up in loving homes.

Before going home, every puppy gets their first round of vaccinations and is checked thoroughly by a veterinarian. You can rest easy knowing you're bringing home a healthy, happy Yorkie who's ready to be part of your family.

Yorkie Puppy Delivery to San Luis Obispo, California: Costs, Timing, and Airports

There are three ways home, and for San Luis Obispo the choice is usually between the last two.

Farm pickup. Families are welcome in Sugarcreek by appointment. Driving it from San Luis Obispo means 2141 miles and 42 to 44 hours behind the wheel in each direction, so the families who visit nearly always fly into Cleveland or Columbus and drive about an hour and a half out into Tuscarawas County. That only makes sense if you were coming east anyway. When it does work out, you see the property, meet the parents where possible, and we go through the vaccination records, microchip registration, and guarantee at the kitchen table. The puppy leaves with a bag of the food it has been eating, a toy, and a blanket that smells like the litter.

Ground transport. A professional pet transport service drives the puppy door to door in a custom climate controlled van, in an individual carrier, with a veterinary check before departure and updates from the road. The fee to California is a flat $450, whether the address is in San Luis Obispo or in , including Arroyo Grande CA, Los Osos CA, Grover Beach CA, Morro Bay CA, Pismo Beach CA, Oceano CA, Los Ranchos CA, and Avila Beach CA. Vans leave on Tuesdays, and the West Coast run takes two to three days depending on the route, so treat any arrival window as approximate until it's confirmed by phone.

Flight nanny. This is the one we usually recommend for San Luis Obispo. A trained handler keeps the puppy in the cabin beside them for the whole flight, never in cargo, in an airline approved soft carrier under the seat, and sends photos and video along the way. Most of these deliveries finish in a single day. Because California sits three hours behind Ohio, a morning departure often means an early afternoon handoff your time, and that handoff happens at baggage claim rather than at the gate. San Luis Obispo County families meet their nanny at San Luis County Regional Airport, and Santa Maria Public Airport Captain G Allan Hancock Field. Flight nanny costs more than ground and is quoted per flight, since the price depends on the route and the date. The puppy needs to be at least eight weeks old, needs a health certificate from a licensed veterinarian, and needs to weigh under 20 pounds including the carrier. A Yorkshire Terrier puppy at two or three pounds isn't close to that limit, which is part of why the breed travels so well in the cabin.

Timing matters more in California than it does most places. For a midsummer arrival in San Luis Obispo we aim for early in the day and ask you to have the car cool and a water bowl ready. Toy breed puppies also run their blood sugar down on a travel day, so a small meal soon after you get home matters more than it would with a bigger dog.
