Find Out Why We're Crazy About Yorkies

Yorkshire Terriers, better known as Yorkies, have a special place in our hearts here at The Puppy House. Yorkies have a beautiful, long, silky coat, and since they shed very little, they're often recommended for people with allergies. Even though they typically weigh 7 pounds or less, Yorkies have a big-dog attitude that can be feisty and bossy. But what most people love is their sweet nature and the deep bond they form with their family. The cherry on top is their love of cuddling and staying close all the time. They usually fit right in with most families. If you live in the Grand Island, Nebraska area, finding a reputable Yorkie breeder can be challenging, since there are so few responsible breeders nationwide. That's why we're proud to offer families in Grand Island our carefully bred Yorkshire Terrier puppies. Our goal is to help every family bring home a healthy, well-raised puppy they can rely on.

Why Families Choose Our Puppies

At The Puppy House, breeding and raising Yorkies the right way is what we do. The standards we follow go well beyond the basics. Our adult dogs are genetically tested and come from strong bloodlines with great temperaments. Our dogs get great care and plenty of room to play and socialize.

Every puppy takes part in Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), a series of gentle handling exercises done in the first few weeks of life. Socialization is another important piece, and it lays the groundwork for good behavior and habits as they grow. We let our puppies play and explore in the backyard with kids, adults, and our own vaccinated adult dogs. They get great socialization this way, along with plenty of exercise.

You're invited to visit us and choose your puppy in person if you can. That way, you can see our home and our dogs for yourself and meet us face to face. For us, placing a Yorkie is a serious commitment and more than a one-time sale. We love making new friends, keeping in touch, and seeing our puppies grow up in loving homes.

Before heading home, each puppy receives their first round of vaccinations and a thorough veterinary exam. You can rest assured that you're bringing home a healthy, happy Yorkie who's ready to be part of your family.

Getting a Yorkie Puppy to Grand Island, Nebraska

Grand Island is 874 miles from our farm, and I-80, the road that runs the length of Nebraska, is also most of the route out from Ohio. That makes the drive easy even though it's a long one. Three ways home are available. The one you use gets settled on a phone call after the puppy is reserved.

Home delivery by ground

A professional transport service takes the puppy door to door in a climate controlled van, its own carrier, a vet check before departure, and updates as it goes. Nebraska falls in the national delivery tier at a flat $450, and that's the rate for Grand Island, for , including Hastings NE, Aurora NE, Central City NE, St. Paul NE, Ord NE, Wood River NE, Fullerton NE, Henderson NE, Vieregg NE, Doniphan NE, Cairo NE, Loup NE, Alda NE, and Lone Tree NE, and for every other address in Hall County. Transport leaves on Tuesdays and most families have their puppy in their arms within about three days. The driving itself is 16 to 18 hours from Sugarcreek to Grand Island.

Flight nanny

A trained handler carries the puppy in the cabin of a commercial flight, seated with the puppy under the seat in an airline approved soft carrier, never in cargo. Same day is the usual outcome. For Grand Island, the meeting point would be Central Nebraska Regional Airport, and Kearney Regional Airport. Handoff happens at baggage claim. The puppy needs to be at least eight weeks old, under 20 pounds with the carrier, and cleared by a licensed veterinarian with a health certificate. Cost is quoted per flight and sits above the ground option.

Pickup in Sugarcreek

Picking the puppy up yourself works too, by appointment. Families who do this see where the puppy was raised, meet us in person, and go over vaccination records, microchip registration, and the guarantee at the kitchen table. From Grand Island it's two long days of driving round trip at the very least, so it's not the common choice here, but the invitation stands and a few families have taken it.

What we suggest for Grand Island

Ground delivery is the sensible default for most of the state. It costs less than flying a nanny out, it puts the puppy at your door without an airport trip, and three days on the road with scheduled stops is easier on a small puppy than most people expect. Flight nanny makes more sense the farther west you are, where the van has extra hours to cover, or if you want the puppy home quickly. One thing worth knowing about the breed on a long trip is that very small puppies can drop their blood sugar when meals get missed, so transport drivers feed small amounts often, and we ask families to keep the first day or two at home quiet and to keep meals on schedule.
