See Why We're Crazy About Yorkies

Here at The Puppy House, Yorkshire Terriers, also called Yorkies, hold a special place in our hearts. This breed has a beautiful, long, silky coat and sheds very little, which is why it's often recommended for people with allergies. Yorkies generally weigh 7 pounds or less, yet they carry themselves with a big-dog attitude that can be feisty and bossy. But what wins people's hearts is their sweet nature and the deep bond they form with their family. The fact that they love to cuddle and stay close all the time is the icing on the cake. They settle in easily with most families. If you live in the Council Bluffs, Iowa area, finding a reputable Yorkie breeder can be challenging, since there are so few responsible breeders nationwide. That's why we're proud to offer families in Council Bluffs our carefully bred Yorkshire Terrier puppies. Our hope is that every family can have a healthy, well-raised puppy they can count on.

Why So Many Families Choose Our Puppies

At The Puppy House, breeding and raising Yorkies the right way is what we do. We hold our program to standards well beyond the basics. We only work with genetically tested adult dogs from strong bloodlines known for great temperaments. Our dogs are well cared for, with plenty of room to play and socialize.

Our puppies all go through Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), which involves gentle handling exercises in the first few weeks of life. Another important step is socialization, which helps shape good behavior and habits as they grow. Our pups play and explore in the backyard with kids, adults, and our own vaccinated adult dogs. It's a great way to socialize them, and they get plenty of exercise too.

We'd love for you to visit us and pick out your puppy in person if you can. You'll be able to see our home and our dogs and meet us face to face. Placing our Yorkies matters to us, and we see it as more than a one-time sale. We enjoy gaining new friends, keeping in touch, and watching our pups grow up in loving homes.

Before your puppy comes home, they receive their first round of vaccinations and a thorough veterinary exam. You can trust that you're bringing home a healthy, happy Yorkie who's ready to be part of your family.

How Your Yorkie Puppy Travels to Council Bluffs, Iowa: Fees and Timing

Home delivery by ground

Council Bluffs families choose this more often than anything else, and we would suggest it first. A professional transport service drives the puppy door to door in a custom climate controlled van, with an individual carrier, a veterinary check before departure, and updates from the road. Transport leaves Sugarcreek on Tuesdays. Most families across the country have their puppy in hand within about three days of departure. Iowa is on the shorter side of that since the route runs west along the interstate corridor rather than across the country. Council Bluffs sits 744 miles into that run, and the driver works through , including Omaha NE, Denison IA, Atlantic IA, Harlan IA, Missouri Valley IA, Audubon IA, Avoca IA, Oakland IA, Logan IA, Manning IA, Woodbine IA, Dunlap IA, Treynor IA, Underwood IA, Griswold IA, Neola IA, Schleswig IA, Carson IA, Walnut IA, Manilla IA, Crescent IA, Shelby IA, Elk Horn IA, and Minden IA on the same pass, along with any other Pottawattamie County address. Cost is a flat $450 for the state, and no airport trip is involved.

Flight nanny

A trained handler carries the puppy in the cabin of a commercial flight and hands it over at baggage claim, never in cargo. Most of these are same day. From Council Bluffs, families usually meet the flight at Eppley Airfield, and Lincoln Airport, and because there's no direct route from our corner of Ohio you should plan on a connection. The puppy needs to be at least eight weeks old, under 20 pounds including the carrier, and traveling with a health certificate from a licensed veterinarian. A Yorkshire Terrier clears the weight limit with room to spare at four to seven pounds, so the carrier is comfortable rather than tight. Flight nanny costs more than ground and gets quoted per flight, and weather delays are part of the deal.

Pickup in Sugarcreek

You're welcome to come get the puppy yourself by appointment. Council Bluffs is 14 to 16 hours out, so this is a full weekend rather than a day trip, but some families want to see where the puppy was raised and go over the records, microchip registration and guarantee in person. If you're making the drive anyway, that's the best version of the handoff.

Travel comes with one breed specific caution. Very young toy puppies can drop their blood sugar after a stressful stretch or a missed meal, so whichever method you pick, plan on small frequent meals for the first few days at home and keep the first evening quiet. Call or text us at (330) 275-4443 and we'll talk through which option makes sense for Council Bluffs.
