Discover Why We're So Fond of Yorkies

Here at The Puppy House, Yorkshire Terriers, also called Yorkies, hold a special place in our hearts. This breed is known for its long, beautiful, silky coat, and because it sheds very little, it's often recommended for people with allergies. Small as they are at 7 pounds or less, Yorkies have a big-dog attitude that can be feisty and bossy. Still, it's their sweet nature and the deep bond they share with their family that win most people over. Their love of cuddling and being close by all the time is the icing on the cake. They fit easily into most families. If you live in the Santa Maria, California area, finding a reputable Yorkie breeder can be challenging, since there are so few responsible breeders nationwide. This is exactly why we take great pride in offering our carefully bred Yorkshire Terrier puppies to families in Santa Maria. We want every family to have a healthy, well-raised puppy they can rely on.

Why So Many Families Choose Our Puppies

Here at The Puppy House, we breed and raise our Yorkies the right way. We hold ourselves to standards that go well beyond the basics. All of our adult dogs are genetically tested and come from strong bloodlines known for their great temperaments. Every one of our dogs is well cared for and has plenty of room to play and socialize.

Every puppy receives Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), which is a series of gentle handling exercises done in the first few weeks of life. Socialization is another important step in helping our puppies develop good behavior and habits as they grow. They play and explore in our backyard with kids, adults, and our vaccinated adult dogs. It's great socialization, and it's a fun way for them to get exercise too.

If it works for you, we invite you to visit and pick out your puppy in person. You'll be able to see our home and our dogs and meet us face to face. We take placing our Yorkies seriously, and we see it as much more than a one-time sale. We enjoy making new friends, keeping in touch, and watching our pups grow up in loving homes.

Before going home, every puppy receives their first round of vaccinations and a thorough veterinary exam. You can trust that you're bringing home a healthy, happy Yorkie who's ready to be part of your family.

Yorkie Puppy Delivery to Santa Maria, California: Costs, Timing, and Airports

There are three ways home, and for Santa Maria the choice is usually between the last two.

Farm pickup. Families are welcome in Sugarcreek by appointment. Driving it from Santa Maria means 2137 miles and 42 to 44 hours behind the wheel in each direction, so the families who visit nearly always fly into Cleveland or Columbus and drive about an hour and a half out into Tuscarawas County. That only makes sense if you were coming east anyway. When it does work out, you see the property, meet the parents where possible, and we go through the vaccination records, microchip registration, and guarantee at the kitchen table. The puppy leaves with a bag of the food it has been eating, a toy, and a blanket that smells like the litter.

Ground transport. A professional pet transport service drives the puppy door to door in a custom climate controlled van, in an individual carrier, with a veterinary check before departure and updates from the road. The fee to California is a flat $450, whether the address is in Santa Maria or in , including Orcutt CA, Nipomo CA, Guadalupe CA, Woodlands CA, Callender CA, Blacklake CA, and Los Berros CA. Vans leave on Tuesdays, and the West Coast run takes two to three days depending on the route, so treat any arrival window as approximate until it's confirmed by phone.

Flight nanny. This is the one we usually recommend for Santa Maria. A trained handler keeps the puppy in the cabin beside them for the whole flight, never in cargo, in an airline approved soft carrier under the seat, and sends photos and video along the way. Most of these deliveries finish in a single day. Because California sits three hours behind Ohio, a morning departure often means an early afternoon handoff your time, and that handoff happens at baggage claim rather than at the gate. Santa Barbara County families meet their nanny at Santa Maria Public Airport Captain G Allan Hancock Field, and San Luis County Regional Airport. Flight nanny costs more than ground and is quoted per flight, since the price depends on the route and the date. The puppy needs to be at least eight weeks old, needs a health certificate from a licensed veterinarian, and needs to weigh under 20 pounds including the carrier. A Yorkshire Terrier puppy at two or three pounds isn't close to that limit, which is part of why the breed travels so well in the cabin.

Timing matters more in California than it does most places. For a midsummer arrival in Santa Maria we aim for early in the day and ask you to have the car cool and a water bowl ready. Toy breed puppies also run their blood sugar down on a travel day, so a small meal soon after you get home matters more than it would with a bigger dog.
